Veteran's Preference
Summary
The University of Northern Iowa provides a veterans preference to qualified veterans as required by Iowa Code Chapter 35C. To request veterans preference, you must provide official documentation for military service or proof of Disabled Veteran status.
Request Veterans Preference
By checking the veterans preference box on the application in Jobs@UNI, an applicant is requesting veterans preference. To complete the request, the applicant must provide official documentation for military service or proof of Disabled Veteran status to UNI Human Resource Services (HRS).

The final step in completing the request for Veterans Preference is to submit official documentation for military service or proof of Disabled Veteran status to UNI Human Resource Services (HRS).
Official Documentation
Official documentation for military service is a DD214 and official documentation for Disabled Veteran status is a Veteran's Administration (VA) disability rating sheet and/or letter stating disability status from the VA. This official documentation needs to be submitted only once and will be kept on file, but veterans preference must be requested each time the candidate applies for a position at UNI. Please submit veteran documentation to the UNI HRS office via email, fax, U.S. Mail or personal delivery. All submissions of official documentation should include the applicant's name, address and phone number, as well as the title of the position sought.

When submitting documentation electronically via email or fax, we suggest you protect your personal information by striking through the Social Security number on the copy being transmitted to UNI.
