"After completing the special ed program at UNI and then going on to my student teaching experience, I have found that the special ed department prepared me for not only teaching in a special ed room, but also has given me far more confidence in the general education room. I feel that had I not had my special ed classes I would not be nearly as prepared as I feel that I am now. I hope to go on and receive a job in a special ed room, however even if I end up in a regular ed room, I feel that I am more equipped to handle it now then I was before I completed the special ed program." The Purpose of this Project is to... |
Examine and revise our current approach to preparing special educators to ensure that we are doing all that we can to provide our students with the knowledge, experiences, and dispositions necessary to become highly qualified special educators capable of serving an increasingly divers student body in schools with increasingly complex delivery models. To do this, we propose a multi-faceted, systematic set of activities that together will allow us to:
1. Examine and refine our on campus program
2. Work with education agents throughout the state to improve the quality of intentionality of the mentoring and induction process for new teachers.
