Student Orgs

Our department-sponsored student organizations give students the opportunity to connect with each other and with faculty through a shared love of history as well as to participate in a variety of social and professional activities. Both the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society are open to students of any major who have an interest in history. 

Phi Alpha Theta sponsors an annual lecture series. Fall events included:

  • multi-department panel History of Reproductive Rights
  • The Politics of Pantheons given by Professor Connors
  • ShepCon: Student Research Symposium

History

Phi Alpha Theta 

Phi Alpha Theta (ΦΑΘ) is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has over 400,000 members, with some 9,000 new members joining each year through 970 chapters nationwide.

Phi Alpha Theta, along with the History Club, host the annual Donald  Shepardson Memorial Student Research Conference. History Club and Phi Alpha Theta students organize and host the conference, which offers students the opportunity to receive recognition and feedback on their scholarly achievements.

Membership requirements for undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members.

History Club

The purpose of the History Club is to protect and promote the integrity of the discipline of history, provide a forum for student-led historical debate, and encourage UNI students to interact across disciplines. 

The History Club will return to meeting in person in Seerley 212, on Mondays at 6:30 pm. Club meetings have included lectures, pizza parties, movie nights, and trivia sessions.
