Session Border Controller (SBC) and SIP Telephone Trunks

ITS-NS plans to install highly available session border controllers in each of the UNI campus data centers. Once this is complete UNI will contract service with a SIP telephone service provider for inbound and outbound dialing. UNI will prefer to deliver these SIP trunks over commodity Internet to further reduce costs. Equipment should be installed and ready for testing by 7/15/15. Full migration to the new trunks must be complete by 12/1/15.

Student Systems PeopleTools Upgrade

Targeting a May 2015 release, ITS-Information Systems will be upgrading the PeopleTools code base of all Student Systems.  This will allow the Student Information System and MyUNIverse to take on new features with future patches for those systems as well as keep these systems supported by Oracle.

This upgrade should not affect the current functionality of these systems. However, we will be taking advantage of new branding options and making the student systems look closer to that of the UNI web space.

UNI Academic WiFi Refresh

ITS Network Service plans to upgrade existing WiFi network systems in all buildings except residence halls, with the exception of RID. Upgrades will happen one building at a time. Announcements will be sent to the building PHP e-mali list at least 48 hours in advance of installation. Network Engineering will conduct site surveys in conjunction with power and channel tuning in all buildings. Ideally all buildings would be refreshed and tuned by 8/1/15. Work will begin as soon as possible, we will work around classroom schedules.

SEC Swing Space Data Voice Move

SEC is closing for renovation and staff will begin moving out 5/11/15. NS will help coordinate moving data voice service to new swing space location.  NS would like to develop a process to move service in conjunction with the SEC swing space move team. We would like to reduce last minute office moves and service request.

Voice over IP

We have begun the process of upgrading phone handsets to voice over IP handsets.  2,400 handsets digital and analog handsets will be upgraded throughout all buildings on campus. As of  3/17/2015 1,787 9611G handsets have been placed. Online training video and support articles have been provided. The voicemail installation and testing will occur Spring 2015 with plans to deploy Summer 2015.
