Private Certification Program
Private group classes will be offered for most American Red Cross courses; there is a minimum class size of six. To schedule a private class with an instructor please call Rachel Cook at (319) 273-3972.
Registration: WRC 101 or My Universe
Payments: Fees must be received prior to class to complete registration.
Refunds: To receive a refund you must cancel your class within seven days of the class start date,
a $5 processing fee will be charged.
Preparing for Class: Please bring paper and a writing utensil to take notes during class.
Course Books: Enrollment fees cover all book rental costs. You will have access to the online course book after completion of the course. Life guarding and Water Safety Instructor courses include a course book.
Class Size: The minimum enrollment size is 6 participants.
Waiting Lists: If a class is full, a waiting list will be available. If a student drops out of
the class, individuals on the waiting list will be notified.

Babysitter's Training
Jump start your teen’s first job. Youth will become great babysitter’s by learning practical skills and confidence through video presentations, hands-on activities, and classroom discussions. Topics include: responding to emergencies, good decision making and communication with parents. Babysitter’s training is designed for youth ages 11 to 14 years.
Fee: $50 –(Includes all course material)
Dates: Monday, July 1 (9:00am-4:00pm) (Section 3, WRC 150)
Graduation Requirements for Specified Majors
Leisure Youth and Human Services Majors as well as Physical Education Majors must complete
certification training before graduation in the following:
Students going into the following fields are recommended to have First Aid,
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Bloodborne
Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission certifications:
- Teaching
- Youth Work
- Elder Care
- Nursing
- Military Service
- Recreation Programming
Camp Adventure Participants
Camp Adventure students must complete certification training in either:
- First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguarding
- First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Shallow Water Attendant
Junior Lifeguarding
A program for youth that provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. Objectives that will be covered include prevention of accidents, fitness, rescue responses, leadership and professionalism. Junior Lifeguarding is designed for youth ages 11 to 14 years. To participate in Junior Lifeguarding a swim pretest is required. The pretest consists of a 25 yard front crawl swim with proper breathing, treading water for 1 minute and swimming 10–feet underwater.
Fee: $80 — (Includes all course material)
Dates: July 22-July 24 (8:00am – 12:00pm)
