Lecture: "Bedazzled: World War I Dazzle Ship Camouflage"

Wednesday, October 31, 2012 - 2:00 pm

During World War I, hundreds of Allied artists, designers and architects served as Army and Navy camouflage experts. Claudia Covert, a scholar and librarian at the Fleet Library at RISD, oversees that school’s collection of 455 rare colored lithographic prints of the plans drawn up by artists for ship camouflage. In a richly illustrated talk, she will show drawings, prints and photographs of the plans and of “dazzle painted” ships, along with other artifacts. The talk will be accompanied by a hallway exhibition and reception. Free and open to the public. Costumes are encouraged.
