These two highly acclaimed documentary films, "Weapon of War: Confessions of a Rape in Congo" and "Fighting the Silence: Sexual Violence Against Women in Congo," both written and directed by Ilse and Femke van Velzen, discuss the use of sexual violence as a tool of war in the seven-year conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the deadliest in Africa's history) and the efforts to combat it focusing on combattants and women themselves. This event is co-sponsored by the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education and UNI-STAND, the student anti-genocide organization.
