Dr. Meredith Kleykamp, associate professor of sociology at the University of Maryland, will be the keynote speaker for the Military and Veterans State conference. Her studies focus on the military culture and the soldier's transition back into civilian life. The goal of the conference is to educate participants about the military culture and the diversity service members bring to campus.
Breakout Sessions: Various sessions throughout the day discuss the unique aspects of military and family culture, how colleges and universities can best be prepared to help military members succeed and give tools to help overcome the challenges of transitioning back into civilian life.
The conference is free to UNI employees. The Military Friendly Employment fair will run concurrently.
Career Services will host an information session about how to make any major attractive to employers.
UNI Fellowship of Christian Athletes will co-host the 3rd annual Fields of Faith, a peer-to-peer event. Students invite their own classmates and teammates to hear fellow students share their testimonies, be challenged to read the Word of God and follow Jesus Christ. A UNI athlete will be one of the speakers.
UNIFI will be tabling in Maucker Union to sell raffle tickets. Proceeds from the charity raffle go to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to promote Hunger in Action month. Dinner is free. Need not be present to win
Employers will conduct interviews scheduled during the Fall Career Fair held on Sept. 16.
The Center for Multicultural Education will host Sandra Guzmán, award-winning journalist and author of The New Latina's Bible: The Modern Latina's Guide to Love, Family, Spirituality, and La Vida. She was one of the interviewers on HBO's doumentary film The Latino List, which featured interviews with notable indivudals including Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, Eva Longoria, Pitbull and America Ferrera.
The UNI Financial Literacy Club is providing free pizza, drinks and cash drawings totaling $1,000! Everyone is welcome to attend. Join us and see what a financial education can do to change the course of your life.
More than 130 organizations, graduate and professional schools will be on campus to visit with students and alumni about career opportunities, internships and continuing education. All majors, freshman through seniors, graduate students and alumni are welcome to attend.
The UNI Wesley Foundation is hosting a salsa dance with lessons at 7 p.m. and dancing beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is $1. Proceeds benefit Northern Iowa Wishmakers which raises money for the Make a Wish Foundation. Dress is semi-formal.
Check out sorority life at UNI. There are four sororities on campus, each with their own chapter house, philanthropy and scholarship program. There are three events during the recruitment process: house tours, philanthropy and preference.
