The Strayer-Wood Theatre presents Mauritius

Crime…Passion…Stamp Collecting? The stakes are high when two half-sisters, mourning the recent passing of their mother, inherit a book of rare stamps that may include the "crown jewel" of the stamp-collecting world. The battle for possession takes a dangerous turn when three rival collectors enter the sisters' world, and they are plunged into a seedy, cloak-and-dagger underworld.  Mauritius by Pulitzer Prize nominee and creator of the hit TV series Smash, Theresa Rebeck, is a suspenseful comedy-drama where everyone involved seems willing to bully, connive, cheat, and, if all else fails, conduct a legitimate business transaction, to gain control of the rarest of prizes. Adult language.  Directed by Steve Taft.

Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with Dror Biran

Dror Biran joins the WCFSO for one of the best-loved works of all time, Tchaikovsky's exceptionally romantic and vibrant First Piano Concerto.

The folk-influenced sounds of the Tchaikovsky concerto play off of a pair of rare and exquisite orchestral gems including Zoltán Kodály's Variations on a Hungarian Folksong (subtitled "The Peacock"), a colorful romantic orchestral setting of Hungarian folk music.  Ingolf Dahl's Quodlibet on American Folk Tunes and Folk Dances is another uncommon symphonic treasure drawing on American folk songs to encapsulate the exuberant and expansive nature of our own country's cultural history.

Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires

Born in Gainesville, Florida, in 1948 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Charles spent the better part of his childhood living on the streets. One of the more optimistic moments of his childhood came in 1962, when his sister took him to see James Brown at The Apollo. Brown's energy formed a lasting impression on Charles. He was discovered by Daptone Records performing a James Brown act and collaborated with the band The Bullets (later they disbanded to become The Budos Band) to release a few singles. After more recording and playing his first album No Time for Dreaming is now out on Dunham Records. In the meantime, Charles has been touring with The Menahan Street Band and honing his passion as a singer and an entertainer. If you know Charles today, then you know one of the most loving, humble, honest and genuine human beings you will ever know. Charles Bradley spent most of his life dreaming for a better one, an and now there is no more time for dreaming, just time for singing, dancing and loving.
