"Illuminating Manuscripts"

Featuring 13th through 17th century illuminated manuscripts as well as objects from Rod Library’s Special Collections, this exhibition was co-curated by Dr. Charles M. Adelman and Gallery Director Darrell Taylor with didactics by UNI students of art history. On Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m., musicologist Dr. Alison Alstatt will present a lecture titled “Strangers in a Strange Land: Spanish Chant Manuscript Leaves in the UNI Permanent Art Collection.” In addition, medieval chants from the manuscript leaves will be performed by Cantorei, directed by Dr. John Wiles.

Lecture: Wonjae Lee

Designer and University of Iowa Lecturer Wonjae Lee will make a presentation titled "Nocturne in Time & Space," which is associated with the UNI Gallery of Art exhibition "Nocturnes: Night Skies in Nineteenth-Century Art and the Darker Side of Modern Art. Free and open to the public.

Recital: "Nocturnes and Chopin"

A lecture recital in the Gallery proper by cellist Eunkyung Son and pianist Shinhyung Kim titled "Nocturnes and Chopin." Presented in association with the UNI Gallery of Art exhibition, "Nocturnes: Night Skies in Nineteenth-Century Art and the Darker Side of Modern Art," which was organized by Legacies for Iowa: A University of Iowa Museum of Art Collections-Sharing Project and supported by the Matthew Bucksbaum Family. Piano provided by West Music Cedar Fall.

"Nocturnes: Night Skies in Nineteenth-Century Art and the Darker Side of Modern Art"

Curated by Dr. Alice M. Phillips, this exhibition is organized by Legacies for Iowa: A University of Iowa Museum of Art Collections-Sharing Project and supported by the Matthew Bucksbaum Family. On Aug. 30 at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Phillips will present a gallery talk. An opening reception will follow. All events are free and open to the public.  Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mon. through Thurs.; noon to 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat.; and by appointment. Please note, the Gallery will be closed Sept. 5 for the MLK Holiday.

"Congressionl Art Competition" Exhibition Awards Ceremony

The “2016 Congressional Art Competition” Awards Ceremony was organized by Congressman Rod Blum. The exhibition itself will run from April 26 through May 7 in the UNI Gallery of Art Showcases. On Wed., May 4 at 7:15 p.m. Congressman Blum will address attendees. Shortly afterward, award winners and honorable mentions will be announced. Free and open to the public.

B.F.A. Group Exhibition

Opening reception: April 25 at 7 p.m. The following students are pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in their respective emphasis areas and are exhibiting new artwork to fulfill graduation requirements: Justin D. Allen (photography), Kelly Ann Cunningham (graphic design), Elise Hanson (photography), and Bradley Kennedy (graphic design). All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mon. through Thurs.; noon to 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat.; and by appointment.

Art Exhibit: Family

UNI Gallery of Art showcases a Latino American Children's exhibit, Family from March 24-April 19. This exhbit was organized by Wendy Miller and features artwork from students in Cedar Falls and Waterloo elementary schools. An opening reception will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 24; free and open to the public.  

"Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition"

This competitive exhibition showcases outstanding works of art by students in the UNI Department of Art. The juror for this year's competition is Jessica Teckemeyer, MFA, Assistant Professor of Sculpture & Ceramics, Clarke University, Dubuque, IA. Teckemeyer will give a lecture at 6 p.m., Wed., March 9, in KAB 111. The awards ceremony for the student exhibition will take place at 7 p.m., Mon., March 21, in KAB 111. An opening reception will follow. All events are free and open to the public.
