Brown bag debrief: Panthers Exploring Fields of Opportunity

Faculty and staff from the College of Education participated in Panthers Exploring Fields of Opportunity by visiting schools across the state during American Education Week last November. If you participated in this event, come to this brown bag to share your experiences. If you didn't, come learn about what your colleagues saw and learned on their school visits.

UNI Teacher Education Induction Convocation

The College of Education will host its bi-annual Teacher Education Induction Convocation. Three hundred and ninety eight students have satisfied requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program, and are invited to participate in the formal ceremony, the official induction of
students into that field of study. Len Froyen, professor emeritus, Educational Psychology and Foundations, will deliver the convocation address.  Jim Wohlpart, provost and executive vice resident for academic affairs, will perform official duties. Parents and friends of the candidates are invited as well as faculty and administrators. A reception will follow in the GBPAC lobby.

Education Research Afternoon

This two-part event includes a presentation and Q&A on a topic related to conducting research in PreK-12 education and a one-hour feedback session and support for your current education research project. Attend either or both sessions. The presentation will be "Single Subject/Single Case Research," presented by Frank Kohler, special education. Education Research Afternoon

This two-part event includes a presentation and Q&A on a topic related to conducting research in PreK-12 education and an hour to get feedback and support for your current education research project. The 3:30 presentation will be "Literacy through Science: Re-engineering the Educational Environment for Optimal Performance in More than One Domain," presented by Soh Meacham and Beth Van Meeteren, of the UNI Regents' Center for Early Developmental Education. Jacobson Center and Reading Recovery Literacy Academy

The Richard O. Jacobson Center for Comprehensive Literacy and the Reading Recovery Program of Iowa will host the fourth annual Jacobson Center and Reading Recovery Literacy Academy - a place of study and training in Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy and Reading Recovery. Specific strands will be available for: Reading Recovery teachers and teacher leaders; Comprehensive Literacy Model (CLM) coaches and classroom teachers; Comprehensive Intervention Model (CIM) coaches, CIM teachers, and interventionists; and Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy (PCL) administrators and school leaders. Keynote speakers include Doug Fisher, professor, Educational Leadership at San Diego State University and a teacher leader at Health Sciences High & Middle College; Linda Dorn, professor, Reading Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock; and Salli Forbes, director of the Jacobson Center and Reading Recovery Program of Iowa. A special celebration will be held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Reading Recovery in Iowa.

Educating Educators Conference

The Multicultural Teaching Alliance will host its annual Educating Educators conference. Keynote speaker will be Gregory Michie, author of such books as We Don't Need Another Hero: Struggle, Hope, and Possibility in the Age of High Stakes Schooling and Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of a Teacher and His Students. This event is free and open to all teacher education students, staff and faculty.
