Since its establishment in 1876 as the Iowa State Normal School, the University of Northern Iowa has maintained its affirmed commitment to the support of excellence in teacher education. This commitment was recognized by the Iowa General Assembly in 1967 when the function of the university was redefined to include as its primary responsibility the preparation of " . . . teachers and other educational personnel for schools, colleges, and universities . . ." Be sure to sign up for one of the High Risk Behaviors and Substance Abuse seminars to be held this semester. If you have not signed up, please contact Barb in the Teacher Education Office (159 Schindler Education Center). You will not be allowed to register for student teaching unless that has been successfully completed.
