The UNI Counseling Center offers workshops on a variety of topics of interest to students. These workshops combine information, discussion, and activities designed to help students improve their personal lives, academic performance, and interpersonal relationships. The workshops, led by graduate students in the Mental Health Counseling Program or Counseling Center staff members, are interactive, informative, and enjoyable.
All workshops are held from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Counseling Center, 103 Student Health Center (upper level).

Nature’s Healing - Discover ways to use nature to positively impact your life. Tuesday, January 22
Healing the Heartbreak - This workshop will offer ideas on how to bring closure to the pain of a broken relationship. Thursday, January 24
Spirituality - This workshop addresses various issues related to spirituality including how spirituality can be applied to different life events, practicing religious/spiritual tolerance, and how media influences our views of religion. Thursday, January 31
Humor as a Stress Management Tool - Humor is now regarded by many experts as a powerful stress management tool. Participants in this workshop will learn how to capitalize on their own sense of humor and to use this gift to better manage the stress in their lives. Tuesday, February 5
Building Healthy Relationships - Do you wonder why relationships go wrong or how to strengthen current or future relationships? Learn about the qualities of healthy relationships and how healthy relationships are maintained. Thursday, February 7, or Wednesday, March 12
Exercise for Health - Learn how healthy exercise can positively impact your physical and emotional wellbeing. Wednesday, February 13
Parent Relationships - Learn to manage changing relationships with your parents through effective communication styles. Thursday, February 14
Time Management - Everything due at once? Never enough time? Learn practical tips, techniques, and methods of effective time management. Thursday, February 21 or Thursday, April 3
How to Help a Friend - Is it sometimes difficult or challenging to be there for a friend? Come to this workshop and learn creative approaches to being a supportive friend. Tuesday, February 26 or Monday, March 24
How to Make Friends - Learn techniques for meeting people and increasing your social support system. Wednesday, February 27
Stress Management - College life and stress go hand-in-hand and can at times become overwhelming. This workshop will teach you techniques to lessen stress and anxiety, live life more fully, and gain a greater sense of self. Thursday, February 28
Test Anxiety - This workshop will offer practical solutions for dealing with test anxiety. Tuesday, March 4
AssertivenessSkills - Do you have trouble saying A no @ , standing up for yourself, or expressing your thoughts and feelings? This workshop will help you understand and assert your personal rights. Wednesday, March 5
Dealing with Difficult People - Sometimes it = s difficult to make it through a day without having to deal with rude or unreasonable people. This workshop will help you deal effectively with difficult people without letting it ruin your day. Thursday, March 6 or Thursday, April 10
Anger Management - You will learn effective techniques designed to help recognize triggers for anger, thoughts and feelings associated with the anger, consequences of that anger, and methods to change thinking to gain positive self-control. Thursday, March 13
Long Distance Relationships - This workshop explores the positives and negatives of long distance relationships. Ideas will be offered on how to keep your romance burning and how to handle conflicts which arise because of the distance. Wednesday, March 26 or Thursday, April 24
Coping with Grief and Loss - Grief is something we all have to deal with in one form or another. This workshop will explore the grieving process and identify ways to help cope with loss. Thursday, March 27 or Wednesday, April 9
Loneliness - This workshop will offer solutions for overcoming loneliness. Learn practical and creative solutions to fill time alone. Monday, April 7
Holistic Living - Are you one dimensional? Explore the many dimensions of our lives. True health comes when we strengthen all the facets of who we are. This workshop will introduce you to ways to live life in 3D – mind – body – and spirit. Thursday, April 17
Active Lifestyle - Learn the benefits of an active lifestyle. Tuesday, April 29
Relaxation Techniques - In our fast paced and stress filled world it is increasingly important that we take time to relax. Relaxation is the first step to restoring and maintaining balance in our lives. Experience the benefits of guided relaxation. Wednesday, April 30
