Photographs by Richard Colburn, (above) “Barbie’s House” (1996), and (right) “Impromptu Interview” (2007). Of "Made in Iowa" Colburn states, "The selection of photographs reflects a progression of new projects and new methods as my work has changed over 30 years. Photographs made in Iowa from the "Closed School" series are part of a larger series of work recording economic and population changes in the rural Midwest. Photographs from projects unique to Iowa include landscapes of the Loess Hills region, an extended series of photographs from the 2007-08 Iowa Caucuses, and the most recent work looking at public lands in Iowa." According to gallery director Darrell Taylor, "Richard Colburn's work is suffused with a respect for place, the unfolding event and the complex histories we create as families or communities. What's more, his images are rich with clarity, texture and tension." Photographs by Richard Colburn, (above) “Helen Brownmiller” (1993), and (right) “124th Trail” (2000).
