Vivert Norman Humanitarian and Harlem Globetrotter Mr. Norman grew up in Freeport, Illinois. He was involved in sports from a very early age. As a teenager, he played basketball for the Civilian Conservation Corps and later, the Harlem Globetrotters. Then, he moved to Waterloo and worked for John Deere. While working at John Deere, he made efforts to eliminate the discriminatory hiring practices by the factory. He was frustrated with the blatant racism and started his own business. After owning several businesses and working on a few other jobs, he got a job as a security guard at Chamberlains. While working and caring for his family, he was involved with community organizations such as the YMCA, Red Cross, Antioch Baptist Church, and the Masons. His participation fostered his leadership and enabled him to help people locally and abroad. Through his food program, helped feed the hungry in Africa.
