Antioch Baptist Church

One of the earliest African - American church in the Cedar Valley
providing support to early migrants who were working for Central Railroad Company

Antioch Baptist Church in Waterloo started in 1912 and formally established in 1913. During Antioch’s 100-year history, many pastors have been called to serve at Antioch. They played great leaderships to build and sustain the spiritual community, and bring their members to this year. Antioch Baptist Church developed from a store front on Mulberry Street, to McFarlane School at 601 Douglas Street, and to current building at 426 Sumner Street since 1951. Membership has grown from 360 in 1938 to 915 in 1961 (Rev. Davis, 1938-1961), to 1400 (Rev. Williams, 1961-1978). The church not only continues its practice of faithful stewardship, but also has increased outreach to the spiritual community and civil community. Rev. Coleman believes that training is important to the growth of the church.
