Prairie On Farms Field Day

Prairie On Farms Field Day

Wednesday, September 20, 2017 - 9:00 am

The Tallgrass Prairie Center and the Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project in Black Hawk County will host a field day. The field day will highlight the installation of an in-field prairie strip in a state identified priority watershed (Dry Run Creek). Participants will learn proper prairie establishment and management techniques for conservation practices involving native prairie vegetation and about the Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project. A complimentary meal will be provided; RSVP by Tuesday, Sept. 12. The workshop is free and open to the public.

Based on qualitative research done at a predominately White, Midwestern institution, this session will address the ways in which (un)intentional racism permeates higher education and the ways that students of color narrate navigating it. Participants will discuss how higher education professionals can identify how they may perpetuate racism in the classroom and how to restructure higher education in ways that include and affirm students of color.

Prairie On Farms Field Day

The Tallgrass Prairie Center and the Iowa State University STRIPS project will host a field day. Topics include the installation of prairie strips and a saturated buffer. Staff will discuss proper seed mix design techniques and proper prairie establishment and management techniques. Researchers from the Iowa State STRIPS team and saturated buffer team will discuss project results and discuss the water quality benefits these conservation practices provide. The park is located 1.5 miles west of Dike on County Road D-19 (160th St.) on the north side. A complimentary meal is included; RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 13. The workshop is free and open to the public.
