UNI Ed Summit: Inclusive Praxis for 21st Century Education: Advocacy, Challenges, and the Public Good

Designed for teachers, university faculty, policymakers and other education stakeholders, UNI’s 2017 Education Summit will explore the opportunities and challenges of 21st century education. The Summit will feature presentations, panels, and dialogue sessions led by state, regional, and national experts, including scholars and practitioners. Keynote speakers for the 2017 Ed Summit will include LeDerick Horne and Lisa Delpit. Breakout session presenters will represent institutions of higher education in Iowa and nationwide, Iowa school districts and AEAs, and education policy organizations.

The exhibition is a formal presentation of recent accomplishments by the faculty in the UNI Department of Art. It is an opportunity for students and the public at large to experience current themes in contemporary art and also to meet artists who not only teach but also maintain vibrant professional careers in studio art, graphic design, art history, and art education. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m., Mon., Oct. 9, in the KAB South lobby.

Free water bottles will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Schindler Education Center, noon to 2 p.m. at the Wellness/Recreation Center and 9 a.m. to noon at Maucker Union, Rod Library and Curris Business Building Tuesday, Oct. 31. Did you know there are more than 65 refill stations located around the UNI campus to make it easy to get your 64 ounces of recommended water every day? Find us on Facebook at Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center to get daily tips and facts about healthy living through sustainable waters habits.

International Panel: Russian Revolutions and Modern Russia (1917-2017)

UNI is welcoming a group of prominent international and domestic speakers for the panel "Russian Revolution and Modern Russia (1917-2017): A 100 Years of Dreams and Realities." The event will bring together specialists from Russia (Dr. Sergunin, St. Petersburg State University and Dr. Rozanova, Russian State Hydrometeorological University), and USA (Dr. Orttung of the George Washington University and Dr. Bruess (UNI History)) to discuss the Revolutions of 1917 and their role in shaping history and modern politics in Russia. The program is co-sponsored by the ARCTICenter and the PROGRUS program on campus.

Camp Adventure Child and Youth Services Informational Session

Camp Adventure Child and Youth Services will have an informational meeting. Camp Adventure Child and Youth Services provides services to children on U.S. military bases world-wide. Programs are available working with school age programs, child development center programs, middle school programs and aquatics departments. We serve locations in Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Hawaii, Florida, etc. Programs begin in June and end in August with a living stipend of approximately $1,750 for 10 weeks. Travel and housing are paid.

Hearst Lecture Series: Tim Dodd

Tim Dodd presents "How a Soviet Space Suit Changed My Life (STEAM)." Dodd describes himself as a space evangelist who works with companies like SpaceX and NASA. The Everyday Astronaut is an art project that went rogue and now has become a vessel of communication on YouTube and Instagram. He will talk about how art can influence other fields, specifically STEM fields. He will also speak about how to use social media to your advantage as an artist. The public is welcome.
