A powerhouse performance featuring the top talents of the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa. The finest artists and music selected by the Cedar Valley’s legendary arts impresario Hugh Pettersen. This annual event reminds us that some of the greatest talent in the world is from our own backyard.
A native of Rockford, Illinois, Emily Bear broke into the national spotlight at age six, when she appeared on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” appearing four more times all within a span of two years. She made her Carnegie Hall debut at age nine and performed at the Hollywood Bowl at age 10. Needless to say, this pianist and composer is one of the most astonishing musical talents of our time. Now, age 13 and under the mentorship of Quincy Jones, she brings us her diverse talent. Along with a jazz trio, she seamlessly moves from classical music to jazz. You’ll want to be able to say you saw her when.
Curtain Talk begins at 2:15 p.m.
Interactive improv comedy with big belly laughs is the promise of Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, two stars of the Emmy-nominated series “Whose Line is it Anyway?” Their quick wit creates hilariously original scenes. As the evening progresses, you may find yourself on stage as part of the gag.
“Playing of wonderful exuberance and fire” is how The Guardian described the Elias Quartet’s performance of Shuman’s Quintet for Piano and Strings. This virtuoso quartet and their special guest Benjamin Hochman capture the energy and deep pathos of this history-making Quintet, as well as Haydn’s Quartet in C-Major, Op. 33, No. 3 (“The Bird”), famed for its light airy notes and playful joke that delights the audience. Britten’s Quartet No. 3 in G-Major (1975) features the haunting notes and contrasting keys that typified his later works. This will be a remarkable concert that provides the audience a rollercoaster ride through some of the world’s greatest chamber music.
*On Stage seating will be limited.*
