The Power of Social Imagination in Higher Ed: The Role of the Arts in Bridging Community Engagement & Education

Panelists Christina Carver, Gloria Kirkland-Holmes, Shuaib Meacham, Wendy Miller, Quinci Morris, Sarah Pauls and Angela Waseskuk will discuss the 2016 "Imagining America" National Conference. This conference focuses on socially just methods used to creatively engage communities and form partnerships between them and institutions of higher learning. The panel will discuss what was gained from the conference and how their roles at the university have been influenced by what they experienced. 


An Introduction to Qualtrics

Participants in this hands-on workshop from Institutional Research and Effectiveness will learn how to get access to Qualtrics, explore basic survey-building tools and see how Qualtrics provides survey data reports. Faculty, staff and students are all welcome; please register at Qualtrics_Training_February2017.

Staged reading of The Piano Lesson

As part of the August Wilson Festival, a community group of collaborators from UNI, Cedar Falls and Waterloo are staging a reading of The Piano Lesson, by playwright August Wilson, author of Fences. A discussion of race and community follows, featuring Lou Bellamy, artistic director of the Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, the largest African-American theatre company in the U.S.

Avoiding Plagiarism

Ellen Neuhaus, Rod Library, and Deanne Gute, Academic Learning Center, will facilitate this RCR workshop, which will help participants become acquainted with key ethical issues involved in research and scholarship. The primary focus will be how to avoid plagiarism of others' work as well as one's own, but will also discuss collaboration in authorship and publication/dissemination. The workshop will help satisfy the requirements for research ethics training for students employed on NSF and NIH projects. The target audience is graduate students, but all are welcome. Registration is required. Fits Part A for Ethics in Scholarship certification.
