New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO)

NGSO is the first in the "Building Graduate Community" 2016‐17 Professional Development Series sponsored by the Graduate College. The event includes opportunities to learn about resources to support graduate student success. Fifteen offices are scheduled to participate in the Campus Resource Fair from 3 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a welcome by Kavita Dhanwada, Graduate College. There will be presentations by Christina Geweke, Office of Business Operation, on how students can manage their university bill and Leila Rod‐Welch, Rod Library, on using the library like a graduate student.

Graduate College Brown Bag Lecture

Suzanne Riehl will present “Routes to Reason: Proportional Reasoning in Middle School Students.”

Proportional reasoning has been called the capstone of elementary school mathematics and the cornerstone of higher mathematics. Riehl will discuss the development of proportional reasoning, the characteristics of proportion problems that affect their difficulty and implications for teaching.

Ninth Annual Graduate Student Symposium

The Ninth Annual Graduate Student Symposium provides opportunities for graduate students to present their research and creative works to the university community. Categories are poster presentations, oral presentations and creative performances. Poster presentations will be judged and open to the public from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Old Central Ballroom, MAU. Oral presentations will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m in Maucker Union meeting rooms. Creative performances are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. in Davis Hall, GBPAC.
