Majors in Minutes

Majors in Minutes allows students to explore majors from students who are currently enrolled in those majors. In a speed-dating style, students will spend eight minutes per table asking questions and learning about a particular major. Music will signal the end of each session and students can choose to stay at that table or move to another table.

Major Spotlight

The Office of Academic Advising will host Major Spotlight. Eight majors will be highlighted; each major will have a 40-minute presentation by seniors, club officers and interns. Social work, environmental science, marketing, digital media, criminology and LYHS will be featured from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Psychology, TESOL, digital media, marketing, LYHS and criminology will be highlighted form 7:20 to 8 p.m.  Free popcorn and pop will be provided.

Spring Academic Advisor Workshop

The featured speaker for the spring academic advising workshop will be Stephanie Logan, curriculum and instruction. She will present "What Academic Advisors Should Know about Implicit Bias and its Detrimental Effects on Student Success." The conference provides a venue for campus academic advisors and faculty to address information covering best practices, resources and campus updates impacting academic advisors.

Majors in Minutes

Majors in Minutes is a way for students to learn more about majors (or minors) that they might be interested in. Similar to speed-dating, juniors and seniors will represent their major at tables where other students can sit down and visit with them to find out more information. Students are able to visit as many or few tables (majors) as they wish during the event. This is a come and go event open to all UNI students.

Majors in Minutes Spotlight

Students will have the opportunity to explore the following six majors at the Majors in Minutes Spotlight: family services, communications, public relations, communication disorders, health promotion and interactive digital studies. Each major will be in a separate room and each room will have a mix of representatives including recent graduates, juniors and seniors with internship or other practical experience and student organizations. There are two sessions; 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. and 7:20 to 8 p.m. Students can attend one or both sessions.
