The Center for Energy and Environmental Eduation and students in the Department of Communication Studies are working together to reduce the amount of lawn pesticides used in Iowa. The meeting is open to the public.
In celebration of Campus Sustainability Day, join the Office of Sustainability for dinner in the Piazza dining center. Information about campus sustanability, food waste and electricity consumption will be available. Students and staff with meal plans may enter using a normal meal, those without are asked to pay the standard fee.
Author Andrea Wulf will speak about her book 'The Invention of Nature,' which reveals the fascinating life of naturalist Alexander Von Humboldt and his impact on how our sociesty views nature. A book signing will follow Wulf's presentation.
UNI CARES (UNI Creating A Responsible Environment Showcase) is a campuswide event to showcase diverse projects research, curricula and initiatives that contribute to building a responsible environment. The goal is to promote activities that address the environment and sustainability, and provide opportunities for future collaboration and active participation. This event will follow the provost's common read of "The Invention of Nature: Alexander Von Humboldt's New World."
Faculty, staff, centers, departments/programs and advisers of student groups are invited to share how they are creating a responsible environment. The participation form can be completed at: http://goo.gl/forms/WpP4DAijm0. The deadline for submission is Monday, Feb. 8.
The 3rd Annual Panther Plot Harvest Festival will celebrate the hard work that UNI students have done, leading up to harvest season. It will also feature food from the garden, live music by Cassie O'Meara and games. This year’s event will feature the public unveiling of phase one of implementation of a new landscape architectural plan for the student garden. This plan was designed by recent UNI graduate Brittany Nelson and implemented by student members of Green Project UNI.
The Office of Sustainability and Rod Library will host a plastic bag exchange in the east lobby of Rod Library. Faculty, staff and students can exchange five or more plastic bags for a UNI reusable bag. Limit of one reusable bag per person. All plastic bags turned in will be recycled.
Join faculty members for a discussion of new initiatives and curricular efforts across campus related to sustainability as well as ways to participate in these initiatives. Beverages will be provided.
The Panther Plot, the on-campus student garden, invites all students, staff, faculty and community members for a celebration of the harvest season! Join us for appetizer samples made with produce straight from the garden, cooking demonstrations by Food Network personality Amy Thielen, music spun by a local DJ, games, and tours of the garden.
