The UNI School of Music presents its annual hands-on workshops for high school student string players preparing for All-State competition. This event is free and open to the public, but does require registration. For more information, please contact Susan.Grover@uni.edu

The UNI School of Music presents its annual Vocal Arts Festival for high school student vocalists preparing for All-State competition and interested in vocal music at UNI. A concert will be held on Monday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Hall, GBPAC. This event does require registration. For more information, please contact John.Wiles@uni.edu

UNI School of Music faculty artist Amana McCandless will present a clarinet recital with collaborators and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public.

Visiting artist Dr. Melanie Batoff, assistant professor of music at Luther College, will present a lecture as part of the “Musically Speaking” series. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, October 5, 2017 - 8:00 pm

Under the direction of percussion faculty artists Ryan Frost and Matthew Andreini, the UNI Percussion, Marimba, West African Drum and Kaji-Daiko (Taiko) Ensembles will offer their fall concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, October 6, 2017 - 6:00 pm

Visiting artist Steve Darling will present a tuba/euphonium recital. A leading soloist amongst a new generation of tubists, euphoniumists, and trombonists, Steven is currently the Adjunct Professor at Murray State University, and holds a Master of Music in Euphonium Performance & Brass Pedagogy from Ohio University in 2015 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Steven has achieved success in both international and local competitions. This event is free and open to the public. 

Friday, October 6, 2017 - 7:30 pm

UNI Jazz Band One, under the direction of Christopher Merz will offer a shared fall concert with the Jazz Panthers, led by Robert Washut. Repertoire and soloists to be announced. This event is ticketed. For tickets, call 319-273-4TIX.

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 - 8:00 pm

UNI School of Music faculty artist Ann Bradfield will present a saxophone recital with collaborators and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 7:30 pm to Friday, October 13, 2017 - 7:30 pm

UNI Opera students, under the direction of Mitra Sadeghpour and vocal coach Korey Barrett, will present an opera performance as part of the Spotlight Series. Performances will be held both Thursday and Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. These performances are ticketed. For tickets, call 319-273-4TIX.

Faculty artist Angeleita Floyd will coordinate this hands-on workshop for flutists. Visiting artist Hannah Leffler will be a featured presenter and performer at the event. For more information, contact Angeleita.Floyd@uni.edu

Monday, October 16, 2017 - 7:30 pm

Visiting artists WoodWired Duo, featuring Hanna Leffler, flute, and Cheyenne Cruz, bass clarinet, will present a recital. Leffler, a UNI alum, has held faculty positions at Luther College, the University of Northern Iowa, and the Northeast Iowa School of Music. She performs frequently with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and is a DMA candidate at the University of North Texas. Cruz currently serves on the faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington, previously held a faculty position at Stephen F. Austin State University, and was the Teaching Fellow in chamber music for the University of North Texas in 2015. This event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of UNI School of Music faculty artists and conductors Amy Kotsonis and John Len Wiles, the UNI Women’s Chorus and Varsity Men’s Glee Club will offer a shared fall choral music concert. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 6:00 pm

Visiting artists BRUSH|REED, a duo featuring musician Jennifer Bill and visual artist Linnea Maas, will present a live performance. BRUSH|REED is a collaboration between artist and musician to explore the parallels of painting and sound through live performance. BRUSH|REED engages the audience through color, pitch, representational lines, rhythm, intensity and expression: an auralvisual experience. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, October 20, 2017 - 6:00 pm

Visiting artist Wesley Warnhoff will present a clarinet recital. Warnhoff serves on the faculty at the University of Missouri, He has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University and received his master’s and doctorate from Michigan State University. He plays in the VCP Trio and Battle Creek (Mich.) Symphony Orchestra. Before his appointment at MU, he taught at the University of Wisconsin and several colleges in Michigan. This event is free and open to the public. 

Monday, October 23, 2017 - 6:00 pm

UNI School of Music faculty artist Chris Dickhaus will present a saxophone recital with collaborators and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public. 

Tuesday, October 24, 2017 - 6:00 pm

Kairos Trio, comprised of UNI faculty artists Cayla Bellamy, bassoon, Amanda McCandless, clarinet, and Heather Peyton, oboe, will present a chamber music recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, October 24, 2017 - 7:30 pm

UNI brass faculty members will collaborate to present this chamber music recital. Collaborators and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public.
