The UNI Physics Department will host the State of Iowa Physics Competition on Tuesday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mcleod Center.  The competition includes a series of five physics events for high school (Grades 9-12) students including the catapult, mousetrap car, tooth pick bridge, optical slalom and measurement. The competition stresses creativity and ingenuity as well as an understanding of physics related principles and is intended to stimulate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The competition emphasizes the scientific and engineering practices found in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and participation in the competition integrated with appropriate instruction can address the NGSS which should be emphasized in all science classrooms.

The Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk is an annual fundraising event for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention hosted by UNI Out of the Darkness and Chi Sigma Iota. Funds go toward suicide prevention education and research and provide survivors with resources. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Monday, April 15, 2024 - 10:30 am to 3:00 pm

Get ready to shop sustainably at the Rummage Rampage hosted by Revitalize to Rewear on Monday, April 15, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 3 PM in the Maucker Ballroom. With a simple yet impactful premise, students can fill an R2R provided bag with donated clothing items for just $5 per bag; with all proceeds directly supporting Cedar Valley Angels, a notable local cause. The event allows and encourages you to fill multiple bags! This unique event promises something for everyone, while making a meaningful difference in our community. Don't miss out on this opportunity to shop with purpose and support a worthy cause all while keeping these items out of our landfill.

Garden of Memories Cemetery is by far the largest cemetery in our local community with more than 4,500 veterans interned there. It is an extensive undertaking to place flags on the grave of each Veteran for Memorial Day.

We are requesting the help of volunteers to place flags on the graves. This mission requires attention to detail, determination and quick adaptive skill sets to finish in a timely manner. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

We will be taking flags back out of the ground on Wednesday, May 29 throughout the day. We would like to encourage folks to help out with that process as well.
