Presidential Honor Roll for community service
UNI is one of 14 colleges and universities, and the top college in Iowa, to be recognized as a finalist for the Presidential Award in the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. This is the fifth year UNI has made the honor roll and the second year it has been named a finalist.
$15 million gift will transform teacher education at UNI
A $15 million gift from Des Moines businessman Richard O. Jacobson sets a milestone for teacher education at UNI. Jacobson's gift to UNI's College of Education is the largest gift UNI has ever received.
UNI Study Abroad Center recognized in new report
UNI's Study Abroad Center has been recognized in the national 2012 Open Doors Report. The center was ranked 15th in the top 40 U.S. institutions for the total number of study abroad students among master's colleges and universities. UNI was also ranked ninth in the nation for participation in short-term study abroad among master's colleges and universities.
UNI students shatter fundraising goal at 2013 Dance Marathon
UNI students raised $101,379.02, for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network, during their second annual Dance Marathon. That's nearly double what they raised last year and well above their goal of $66,000.
The spring 2013 Commencement RSVP is now available. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 26. All degree candidates, whether or not they're planning to attend the Commencement ceremony, MUST submit a Commencement RSVP. Those students wanting to walk through the spring 2013 Commencement ceremony, but who are completing their degree requirements in another semester, should also fill out and submit the RSVP.

Contracting for residence halls
There's still time to sign up for fall housing on campus. Coming fall 2013, students will have a variety of new and enhanced options for on-campus living. Options include: expanded Living Learning Communities, "Springboard" communities for freshmen and more opportunities for juniors and seniors to experience apartment-style living on campus. RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS
Help with resumes, cover letters and interviewing is available
UNI's Office of Career Services offers students help in drafting resumes, writing cover letters and practicing interviewing skills. Tutorials are available online. The office has resources for finding internships and career information.
Free tax preparation
UNI accounting students provide free income tax assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. through April 10, in 223 Curris Business Building. No appointment is necessary. For more information, call the UNI Department of Accounting at 319-273-2394.
Don't dump it -- donate it!
Does your student have usable household items he or she doesn't want any more? When it's time to move out, consider donating to local charitable organizations.
UNI will host Panther Pick Up during the first week of May when many UNI students are moving out of residence halls and apartments. Specific times and locations are available on the Panther Pick Up website.
Academic Learning Center offers tutoring
A-Team is a tutoring service offered by the Academic Learning Center on Sunday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., on the first floor of the Rod Library. A-Team has tutors for math, science, business, writing, study strategies, GRE verbal and more. The service is free for current UNI students.
Academic coaches available
It's never too early to start preparing for final exams and projects. The College Reading and Learning Center can help. Students can call 319-273-2361 to set up an appointment with an academic coach to help with study strategies and preparation for the end of the semester.

Get involved -- join UNIPA
All parents and guardians of UNI students are automatically members of the UNI Parents Association, which works as an advocacy group. Benefits include e-newsletters each semester and a parents' booth at orientation. Anyone interested in helping out at the parent booth, please contact Leslie Williams at 319-273-2332.
The parents association also supports the Parents Fund, which supports student scholarships and activities on campus.
