Nate Ruess coming to Gallagher Bluedorn Oct. 7

College Hill Farmers Market

The College Hill Farmers Market is open weekly, rain or shine, from 4 to 6 p.m., on Thursdays, at the corner of W. 22nd and College streets. The market offers hot food by La Calle, fresh produce, crafts, homemade bread and jelly.

New recycling options at UNI

Beginning fall semester, all academic buildings will have new single-stream recycling units in public areas. Look for units that have a blue recycling container attached to a black trash container. All clean cardboard, plastic, metal and paper can be placed in the blue containers without sorting. Trash and glass will go in the side marked for trash.

Panther Plot sweet corn

Sweet corn is available from the Panther Plot student garden, south of the BRC from 3 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, and from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Aug. 5, while supplies last. Stop by the garden any time you see students working to check on availability or take a tour.

Time to order 2015-2016 parking permits

Parking permits can be ordered online now through 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 15. This is also the deadline for permanent faculty and staff to choose the pre-tax monthly payroll-deduction payment option for the permit fee. You can purchase both a regular vehicle permit and a motorcycle permit. This option applies to the G, Gm, A and B permits. If you have questions, call 273-2710.

ADA 25th anniversary celebration walk

UNI Student Disability Services and Exceptional Persons, Inc. will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, at the fountain outside of Maucker Union. Keynote speakers provost Jim Wohlpart and Tyler Greene will kick off a one-mile walk around campus. In the event of rain, the walk will relocate to the track in the WRC.

Compost training scheduled in August

The IWRC will host Food Waste Compost Training: On the Farm and in Your Community from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at the CEEE. This one-day workshop will cover compost management. Registration is $20.

Hillside-Jennings apartments office moving to ROTH

Effective July 28, the Hillside-Jennings apartment office is moving from its current location at 3900 Jennings Drive to ROTH complex around the corner at 3800 Jennings Drive. Hillside-Jennings residents and guests can park in the 30-minute parking stalls outside the main entrance to ROTH. Upon entering ROTH, the apartment office will be up the stairs straight ahead, Room 121. The office phone will remain the same, 273-6232. Office hours are posted online.

Extended dining hours for RAGBRAI

Piazza and Biscotti's will have extended hours on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 to support RAGBRAI. Hours are posted on the summer dining hours page. Dinner at Piazza on Wednesday evening will feature an all-you-can-eat pasta and salad bar.

The UNI Center for Urban Education (UNI-CUE) has new phone numbers. The main number is 273-4772. TRiO program numbers are as follows: the Educational Opportunity Center is 273-4774; Educational Talent Search is 273-4773; and Classic Upward Bound is 273-4775. Direct numbers for UNI-CUE staff are listed in the UNI Directory.

MyUNI App receives updates

The MyUNI App has been updated on both the Google Play store and the iTunes Store. Some of the new features are a link for the traditions app, a first-year experience button and a button for wellness resources.

West 27th Street is closed temporarily

The City of Cedar Falls has begun reconstruction work on West 27th Street between Hudson Road and Panther Parkway. This will require a full road closure which will be in effect for two to three days, depending on the weather.

Cable TV changes coming June 30

The UNI cable TV channel lineup will change to digital only on Tuesday, June 30. This will require all TVs to have a digital tuner. Most flat screens purchased since 2007 have digital tuners. For TVs that don't support digital channels, an external tuner can be added for about $50 per display. When the change takes place, all televisions will need to be rescanned to receive the channels, following the same procedure when setting up a new television. If you have any questions, email Denny Reimer or call 273-6285.

Abandoned bicycle round-up

The UNI Police Division collected a number of abandoned bicycles on May 28. If you think your bike may be among those collected, stop by 30 GIL or call UNI Police at 273-2712 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will be asked the make, model, color, serial number and location where you last parked the bicycle. A $5 impoundment fee will be assessed for retrieval.

Erbert and Gerbert's sandwich shop is now open in Maucker Union, replacing Café Fresco within Prexy's Food Court. Erbert and Gerbert's hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, until regular dining hours resume Friday, Aug. 21.

Construction notice - W. 27th Street

The City of Cedar Falls will start reconstruction work on W. 27th Street between Hudson Road and Panther Parkway beginning the week of June 8. The street will remain open during Stage 1 of the project. Near the end of June, Stage 2 will require a full street closure lasting two days. Further information will be provided once the actual closure dates have been determined.

Theatre UNI will perform the musical "Rent" at the end of October. Show auditions will be at 6:30 p.m., in SWT, the first week of the fall semester. An audition workshop for students new to Theatre UNI will be Sunday, Aug. 23. Cold readings and monologues for those who have them will be Monday, Aug. 24. Acclaimed actor Rob Lowe will speak at the GBPAC at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, as part of the Joy Cole Corning Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series. Candlelight vigil for Nepal quake

A group of current Nepali students at UNI has organized a candlelight vigil for 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, at the UNI Campanile.
