Degree:

B.A., Marketing with emphasis in Advertising and minor in Art 

First impression:

In high school, I never thought I'd be able pursue both marketing and art professionally, it had to be one or the other, but that changed during my marketing courses. I love being able combine both of my passions into one exciting career. 

 

Now:

I am currently a marketing coordinator with DreamWorks Animation Studios in Los Angeles, Calif. Within this role, I facilitate the global marketing initiatives for television series and theatrical films. I also help design advertising materials, producing commercials and develop presentations for studio events.

Leading Role:

Member of the UNI men's Cross Country and Track & Field teams, involved in the American Advertising Federation and American Marketing Association, and a student designer for the Student Involvement Center—all of which provided great opportunities for me!

First impression:

While at UNI, I was a Student Admissions Ambassador, the Black Male Leaders Union vice president, a residential assistant and a Career Peer Adviser in the Office of Academic Advising. 

  

Now:

Resource Development Manager with Modis, St. Louis, Mo.

Leading role:

When I arrived at UNI, I realized that I was responsible for finding my own job, where I would be able to afford the lifestyle I wanted after college. So early on, I really dove into my academics and community involvement.

B.S., Manufacturing Technology: Metal Casting and Design Manufacturing

First impression:

I was offered a full-time position at the John Deere Foundry in Waterloo as a junior in college. It was a great opportunity and I knew then I was in the right field and on the right track for my career. 

 

Now:

Currently an engineer at the John Deere Waterloo Foundry where I am responsible for improving the quality of castings and reducing cost in the business. 

Leading role:

While attending UNI, I was involved in the American Foundry Society, Society of Women Engineers, Pella PEERS, Foundry Educational Foundation, John Deere Part-Time Student Program. I also attended the Metal Casting Congress, which gave me a great opportunity to meet other professionals in the industry.

Degree:

B.A., Economics and B.A., English 

First impression:

The Law and Economics class I took my senior year helped solidified my desire to want to attend law school. I thought each subject was incredibly interesting and made me realize that my economic background would help me tremendously when I began to study law.

 

Now:

As a clerk for a Federal district judge in the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago, I assist a Article III judge with all her duties, including helping draft motions and helping manage trials and juries.  

Leading Role:

While at UNI, I was a member of the UNI football team and involved in the pre-law club, active with the student-athlete advisory committee and a member of the student admissions committee.

Nicole

UNI is a welcoming and supportive community that quickly made me feel at home. There are so many opportunities to get involved and make a difference on campus.

Degree:

M.A., Speech-Language Pathology

First impression:

UNI is the perfect size. It's a large enough university to offer a wide variety of opportunities and experiences, but small enough to provide the feeling of a close-knit community.

Now:

I am currently working as a Speech-Language Pathologist for Area Education Agency 267, Waterloo.

Leading role:

Studying abroad through the Capstone in England and Ireland was one of the highlights of my experience as a UNI student. After participating in the program as a junior, I served as the Program Assistant for the trip the following year. It was an incredible opportunity to help organize and plan an international program while getting to travel with other UNI students.

Degree:

B.A., Accounting and Economics

First impression:

UNI provides a great education with big university opportunities and a small campus that really feels like home.

Now:

I will be taking UNI's CPA review courses and once that's completed, I will be an audit associate at RSM (formerly known as McGladrey) in Des Moines.

Leading role:

I went to Shanghai, China with the College of Business Administration's Presidents Council to meet incoming transfer students and promote UNI. I also traveled to Poland with the Economics department where I presented my research project that was on credit card interchange fees.

Savon

I'll always remember my relationships with my professors and football teammates. The friendships I have made have helped me grow.

Degree:

M.A., Physical Education in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Psychology

First impression:

Everything around me was accessible. UNI was the right fit for me as it gave me the opportunity to finish my Masters degree and play collegiate football for my final year.

Now:

I am currently training for the NFL and will be getting involved in coaching and personal training.

Leading role:

Transferring from another school I felt right at home once I got on campus. On and off the field I did the best I can to lead by example, which I had the honor of being named captain of the UNI football team. Being able to finish my Masters in one year goes to show if you put your mind to something and work for it anything is possible.
