CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Lindsay Cohn, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Northern Iowa, has recently been awarded an International Affairs Fellowship (IAF) with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
The IAF began in 1967 and is designed to assist mid-career scholars and professionals in advancing their analytic capabilities and broadening their foreign policy experience. The CFR is a nonpartisan membership organization, think tank and publisher that includes such members as Brian Williams, Fareed Zakaria, Chuck Hagel and many others. CFR awards approximately 10 fellowships each year through a highly competitive selection process.
"As a political scientist, my main motivations for both teaching and research are to understand how society is governed, to help others understand and thus to improve how society is governed," said Cohn. "This is a really exciting chance to do all of those things."
"Professor Cohn is to be congratulated and her selection is a testament to her expertise and promise in the field of international relations," said Donna Hoffman, head of UNI's Department of Political Science. "Upon her return to UNI at the end of her fellowship period, she will bring a wealth of new experience which will no doubt inform both her research and her teaching."
