CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Athletic training students at the University of Northern Iowa have set the bar high with a pass rate of 100 percent on their Board of Certification (BOC) exams, compared to the national average of 70 percent.

From UNI, 15 athletic training seniors took the BOC exam this April. The exam can only be taken once a student has completed all of the athletic training course work, field experiences and has mastered various competencies. Upon completion of the exam, students are then certified athletic trainers.

The exam tests candidates in areas of anatomy, physiology, injury assessment, injury pathology, use of technology and modalities for injury care, injury rehabilitation, athletic training administration, psychological factors related to injury and emergency care procedures.

In June, six more UNI seniors are scheduled to take the exam.
