Sitting in a Wooden Swing

Bill Lyons

on the wrap-
around porch,
low railing
a footstool,

blowing smoke rings
into fading light,
rings drifting touching,
two people talking,

crescent moon nestling
into the sunset beyond
railroad tracks where trains
carry coal to factories

to blow steam and smoke
but not like ours,
soft circles against
the coming stars.
