UNI Academic WiFi Refresh

ITS Network Service plans to upgrade existing WiFi network systems in all buildings except residence halls, with the exception of RID. Upgrades will happen one building at a time. Announcements will be sent to the building PHP e-mali list at least 48 hours in advance of installation. Network Engineering will conduct site surveys in conjunction with power and channel tuning in all buildings. Ideally all buildings would be refreshed and tuned by 8/1/15. Work will begin as soon as possible, we will work around classroom schedules.

SEC Swing Space Data Voice Move

SEC is closing for renovation and staff will begin moving out 5/11/15. NS will help coordinate moving data voice service to new swing space location.  NS would like to develop a process to move service in conjunction with the SEC swing space move team. We would like to reduce last minute office moves and service request.

Voice over IP

We have begun the process of upgrading phone handsets to voice over IP handsets.  2,400 handsets digital and analog handsets will be upgraded throughout all buildings on campus. As of  3/17/2015 1,787 9611G handsets have been placed. Online training video and support articles have been provided. The voicemail installation and testing will occur Spring 2015 with plans to deploy Summer 2015.

Continued Document Imaging Rollout

UNI has implemented and is using the OnBase imaging system from Hyland Software.  We currently have Human Resources using the system, as well as some functions of the Registrar's office.  We are actively working with Financial Aid and Admissions on bringing document imaging to their offices as well.

This project will continue to serve new business processes and areas as they are identified.  If you have documents and processes you would like to discuss moving to document imaging, please contact one of the following people:

Administrative Systems Hardware Refresh

ITS-Information Systems refreshes system hardware every 5 years.  Up until this point we have run most of our environment on Sun Sparc hardware in virtualized zones.  However with the ever increasing power of x86 systems and the lower cost, it is now feasible to run our large administrative systems on this hardware.

We have completed trial conversions of all key systems, and are now building the infrastructure to support the converted systems.  In April 2014 we will begin conversions and plan to have nearly all systems converted by the fall of 2014.

MyUNI Mobile Application

In October 2013 UNI signed an agreement with Blackboard Mobile to provide us with a hosted mobile computing solution.  UNI staff configure the site to our look and feel and point it to data that already exists in our systems and systems of our service providers.  The initial release occurred January 1, 2014.

Network Expansion to SUI Oakdale ITF Data center

ITS-NS plans to build a network to support servers an services loaked in the Oakdale data center. This will provide the based netork infrastructure to support fault tolerant or highly available systems located in this remote facility.  On 7/11/14 a new transfer switch was installed at ITF to support single power supply systems.  In September the UNI rack will move to a new row. In December 2014 systems were migrated to a new row which will allow UNI to expand to 5 contigous racks. A new firewall/VPN solution is being evaluated for the environment and was installed by 3/1/15.
