New Discounted Dell Configurations Available

Over the past few months staff from both Business Operations and Information Technology Services have worked with their counterparts at the other regents institutions to negotiate a new contract with Dell. This new contract has resulted in a new set of standard desktop and laptop configurations that are available at great discounts to University departments. These new configurations should be available for purchase via the University's Dell Premier website by end of business on Tuesday, February 23rd.

Campus-wide IP Phone Upgrade

Information Technology Services plans to upgrade IP phones across the UNI campus on Saturday, February 6th, starting at 7:00AM and ending before 2:00PM. The phone reboot will take approximately 10 minutes. The only expected change to your phone's settings after this upgrade is that the ring volume will reset to default levels (this might be louder or softer than you had it set at previously). Answers to other frequently asked questions are at the bottom of this announcement.

IDDS on Wheels!

Instructional Design and Development Services (IDDS) on Wheels is a new service that ITS is offering to bring Instructional Design staff to each building on campus that has faculty offices. During these days faculty will be invited to meet one-on-one with staff to discuss different teaching and learning technologies that can be used in their courses at UNI. ITS staff will also offer a workshop that will give an overview of the different technologies and services offered in ITS Educational Technology.

Upcoming UNI Voicemail Maintenance

Information Technology Services plans to upgrade the systems behind the UNI Voicemail service between 5:30 and 10:30 PM on Friday, November 13th. Your voicemail box will remain available and able to accept messages. The web portal used to play your voicemail messages from your computer and email notifications for new voice messages will be unavailable during this time, however.

"Phishing - Don't get Caught!" Workshop on October 12, 10:15-11:00 AM

Phishing is an attempt to steal your UNI authentication credentials, i.e., CatID username and password, usually for financial gain.  The exact method employed can vary widely from crude and unimaginative to highly researched and targeted attempts.  UNI IT Security officer, Ken Connelly, will provide examples of past phishing attempts as well as techniques you can use to avoid being caught. UNI Voicemail Training Sessions

Information Technology Services will host several drop-in training sessions (no registration required) on the new UNI Voicemail system starting the week of August 24th. These sessions will go over the basics on how to initialize your voicemail box if you haven't already, how to utilize the Google Apps integration (calendar and Gmail), and how to set and utilize different types of greetings in the new system. There will also be extensive time for questions and answers, demonstrations using phone handsets, and walk throughs of the voicemail system web portal.

ITS Completes Fiber Optic Cable Construction

ITS Network Services infrastructure team has completed the second and final phase of UNI's Fiber Optic Network project. This project built a highly available single mode fiber optic network, useful for very high speed network connectivity, to each building on campus, except houses. This fiber has an expected life of 20 years or more. Diverse fiber bundles were designed to provide network resiliency should one UNI data center go offline due to a disaster.

Retirement of Marilyn Drury

UNI and AT&T Partner to Offer Guest Wireless Access

UNI, in conjunction with AT&T, is offering complementary wireless internet access to UNI visitors and guests via the attwifi network. This will replace UNI-Guest in all campus locations except the UNI-Dome and the McLeod Center.

The attwifi network is not intended for current UNI faculty, staff, or students. These users are encouraged to use the secure, encrypted WiFi-UNI network. Configuration assistance for WiFi-UNI is available here.
