Why did you decide to attend college in the United States? And why did you choose UNI?
When I finished my undergraduate in Chile I was looking a good graduate school. There, I met some UNI students who were participating in a exchange program. They encouraged me to attend to UNI. Another reason was that most of my professors in Chile got their M.A. or Ph.D. at UNI.
What do you like the most about UNI?
I really love the way that UNI treats International Students. It creates a great environment. You can feel you are at home.
Do you participate in any on-campus organizations or activities?
I am the International Student Promoters’ Advisor. Also, I participate in Hispanic Latino Student Union, and I play at UEFA All Star Soccer team.
Do you work on campus?
I work in the Office of International Admissions as Graduate Assistant. It’s a great place to work.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
I like spending time in Maucker Union with my friends. Also, I love going to work out at WRC and eating in the dining Center. My Favorite is Piazza.
What have you done to help make UNI your home away from home?
I get involved in as many activities as I can. There is always something to do. Football, basketball or soccer games, shows at the Gallagher Bluedorn Art Center or meeting about interested topics. Everything counts to create a home environment.
What is the one thing you would tell a new or prospective international student about attending a college in the United States?
Don’t be afraid. There will be people who always help. You won’t be alone. And if you miss your family for any reason, you can use skype and give them a campus tour!
How has your academic experience been?
UNI has permitted me to explore and improve my skills. The academic experience at UNI lets me to think analytically and and critically every day. Here the important thing is what you think, not what professors tell you.
How did you determine your major… i.e. did you take a class, consult with UNI programs, inspired by someone or something?
I love technology and teaching. Instructional Technology at UNI combines those two fields that I love in a unique way. When I decided my program, I contacted one faculty and he explained me everything about the program and how it would be useful in my future as a teacher.
Tell us about any great classes or professors that have helped, inspired or challenged you with determining your career path.
I remember my Coordinating technology in educational Settings class. That class was taught online. The great thing was we worked in groups and I met my group every week using skype and google docs. That was amazing. and the last class we gave a presentation about our final project. It was incredible because every member was in different parts of United states.
