Me and my family did a research on several universities in the U.S., and we decided to pick school that has a great education, environment, safe and welcoming society. For me, UNI has a great business program especially in accounting! But I picked UNI because of the great people that always greet you, the warm international students and services as well as welcoming students and faculty that always make me feel happy.
I really love the people and the fact that there are not so much disturbances around while I can still make great life experiences.
Yes, I do! And I always love to do so because it’s fun!
Yes, I do! Working on campus has helped me gain experience and knowledge on how the working environment in the United States works.
I love Maucker Union and Campanile. I love the cozy atmosphere of the Maucker Union—it’s a perfect place to study and hang out with friends. I also love the Campanile because it’s really symbolic yet a really cool place to relax nearby.
Being a friend, being a photographer, being a panther. I love making new friends and knowing more about others and their cultures. When we know each other, we become closer like family. I also love taking pictures, because I take picture often I become closer to my friends, faculty, organizations and environment. And being a Panther, I am active in student organizations, supporting school spirit and representing the school name. I have helped my friends create an experience at UNI, our home away from home.
I would tell them that I am doing an adventure at UNI. Being in Iowa and at UNI, I have a very different life from when I was in my country. I’ve learned a lot from how people always greet you warmly even though they don’t know you, I have witnessed many differences that each cultures have that I didn’t know before, I learned not to take things for granted. There are many things that I used to assume, but being here in a different place than home, I have realized so many things I didn’t know. I am on adventure to learn other perspectives.
It has been great. Sometimes it might be a lot of work, but there has always been support. Friends and faculties always help me. I got close to several professors who are willing to chat like my own friends. This is weird for me, but it is true and great!
At first I was majoring in Finance Management, after I took my first accounting class at UNI which was Financial Accounting and an Intro to MIS class, I realized I’ve never thought of these fields and I like it much more than finance, so I switched major. Besides, when I went to career fair these fields have much more opportunities for jobs. And UNI has one of the BEST accounting departments. The person who inspired and supported me the most was my aunt and uncle who work in IT and Accounting.
I have a professor and friend in the economic department. At first I thought his class is hard and challenging for me, but he has always been a great source for questions and information. In the end of the semester I became close to him and he knows that I love fashion. We chat several times about our lives and interests. He has changed my mindset about how professors’ and students’ relation should be, it should not be autocratic or stiff, but in fact it should be open and friendly, and I have never found this in my country.
