Muchas Manos Light
Work Higher Education Scholarship
Purpose
The purpose of the
Muchas Manos Light Work Higher Education Scholarship
is to provide a means for exceptional Nicaraguan students that have finished high
school, to attend a University or Vocational School.
It is our hope,
that upon completion of higher education, recipients of this scholarship will
use their knowledge and skills gained at a University or Vocational School to
help improve the lives and lively-hood of the people in their respective
communities.
We, Muchas Manos Light Work, firmly believe that the
better-educated and skilled Nicaraguans are, and the more they are willing to
help each other to work smarter and to grow as people, the more Nicaragua will continue to prosper and grow.
Selection
Criteria
In selection of a
scholarship recipient Muchas Manos Light Work will
not discriminate upon age, sex, or “religion”.
The following are
criteria for selection of a recipient of Muchas Manos
Light Work Higher Education Scholarship:
- Candidate must be a Nicaraguan Citizen.
- Candidate must be actively involved in
the community.
- Candidate must finish High School and
be ready to attend a University or Vocational School.
- Candidate must have maintained a
minimum grade level in High School (yet to be determined).
- Candidate must have a letter of
recommendation from community leaders assigned by CEPAD explaining why the
individual is a good candidate.
- A candidate, if selected, must agree
that CEPAD and Muchas Manos Light Work will receive
their grades, and that they will maintain a certain grade level (yet to be
determined).
- A candidate, if selected, must agree
that after graduation, they will help their community in their respective
fields and help someone else finish a University or Vocational School.
The previous are
general guidelines for the selection of a Muchas
Manos Light Work Higher Education Scholarship recipient, and, upon the
discretion of the scholarship committee, may be adjusted for unique situations
and circumstances.
Each year the
candidate that is awarded a scholarship will be re-evaluated on grades and
activity in the community to decided whether to continue the scholarship for
that individual.
Short and Long
Term Goals
Current Goal
- One new scholarship awarded every four
years
- Award only one four-year scholarship
to only one recipient, and not award another scholarship until the
previous scholarship has expired.
One to Five Year
Goal
- One new scholarship awarded each year
- Each recipient receives a scholarship
for four years of study (as long as they maintain good grades, and stays
active in a community)
- In any given year, we are helping no more than four
students at a time
Five to Ten Year
Goal
- Four new scholarships awarded each
year
- The first scholarship being for four
years, the second for three years, the third for two years, and the fourth
for one year.
- Scholarships awarded based on what
each recipient scores on the selection criteria compared to each other.
- The candidate that ranks the highest
gets the four-year scholarship, and the candidate that ranks fourth gets
the one-year scholarship.
