1) Capitalize proper nouns.
Remember that political parties, government departments, and historical movements, events, and documents are all proper nouns. Ex:
Democratic Party; a Democrat
the Congress; Congressional
primary elections were a Progressive reform
the Constitution; the Declaration of Independence
Capitalize titles when referring to a specific person. When referring to the office generally, you may usually use lower case:
The bill, signed into law by President Clinton last week, will raise the minimum wage by 35 cents per hour. In his speech at the signing ceremony, the President claimed that it would raise the pay of 20,000,000 Americans.
Under the Constitution, the president is subject to impeachment by the House of Representatives.
