Water Influences all Aspects of Life

Water related proverbs and sayings can be found in all cultures. Proverbs are statements in frequent use which express well known truths or facts. Understanding a proverb gives insight into the lives, values, and beliefs of the people who use it. Raining Cats and Dogs is a Project WET activity which explores water proverbs from around the world. Iowa Project WET has begun to collect water sayings. Below are some of the sayings we have collected. Can you think of any others?

Just a drop in the bucket. Still water runs deep. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. This is just the tip of the iceberg. A drip is a dr op and a drop is water and water is nature and nature is beautiful. Thanks for t he complement. Sayings from Korea


To drown in a glass of water (to worry about the simple).

What harm does water do a fish?

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. That's about as clear as mud. That is just water over the dam. Save it for a rainy day. I love you as much as all the coulds in the sky. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink unless you salt his oats. A frog does not drink the pond in which he lives. Don't pee on an electric fence. Water always take the path of least resistance. I'm sunk! Keep you're head above water. A fish out of water. As slow moving as a lake. Water doesn't run uphill.
