Position: Tenure-line Assistant Professor, English Education, to begin Fall 2008; nationally competitive salary and benefits. Attractive teaching load: teach secondary English methods; contribute to English Major and Minor programs and Liberal Arts Core (writing, literature, or humanities).

Required Qualifications: doctorate in English Education by December 2008; at least three years successful teaching English/Language Arts 6-12; knowledge of current research in teaching secondary English/Language Arts; documented expertise in one or more of the following — literacy studies, reading/literature pedagogy, writing pedagogy, young adult literature, media studies; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, research, and publishing.

Department: 35 tenure-track faculty. Liberal Arts Core courses in writing, literature, and humanities. B.A. majors, minors, and teacher-licensure in English and TESOL; B.A. minors in Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Film Studies. M.A. programs in TESOL and in English with emphases in Literature, Creative Writing, and Secondary Teaching. About 320 undergraduate majors and over 100 M.A. students in English and TESOL. University: Northern Iowa, with approximately 12,600 students, is a highly rated comprehensive university located on a pleasant and attractive campus of some 850 acres. About 810 faculty teach in undergraduate and graduate programs that encompass over 120 major areas of study.
