PLS STEP-UP INFORMATION

PLS has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available for UNI students. Students who complete a semester of volunteering successfully, based attendance and satisfactory faculty report, will receive a certificate of participation suitable for inclusion in their teaching portfolio. In addition, you will learn lots of skills working in the classroom!

PLS is a laboratory school serving a student body that is diverse across ethnicity, ability, socioeconomic status and age. As a result there is a board range of unique volunteer opportunities available at our school.

Responsibilities of volunteers:

Treat this as a job commitment.
- Be on time.
- Be absent only when unavoidable.
- Inform teacher as early as possible when there will be an unavoidable absence.
If for some reason you will be unable to complete the commitment for the semester, you are to let the supervisor know at the earliest possible time. At least two weeks notice would be preferred.
Be professional
- Interact with students and staff in a professional way.
- Be respectful of teachers, students, and yourself.
- Ask questions about things that you do not understand
Sign attendance book every time you are present and keep a personal attendance log.

How to Sign Up

If you are willing to make such a commitment and this sounds like something that would enhance your skills and fit into your schedule:

check out the current volunteer requests below.
you can volunteer for as little as one time period a week or for as often as your schedule allows.
If you find something that fits with your schedule:
- copy the sign-up form into an email message
- fill it out.
- Email it to eastk@uni.edu.
When your sign-up form is received, you be sent an email acknowledging your enrollment and telling you when you can begin. If you complete the semester satisfactorily, you will receive a certificate.
