Final Project
240:237 Coordinating Technology in an Educational Setting
200 points

You have had the opportunity to evaluate an institution's technological environment, evaluate a technology plan, write a grant for funding a project, and now you have the opportunity to write a technology plan. It is assumed that the institution you have been working with throughout the year has a technology plan. Creating a new technology plan for your institution would be redundant. It IS useful for you to update and improve your institution's present technology plan. Here's your chance:

Narrative:

Write a narrative which includes (you can use previous information where applicable):

  1. Introductory paragraph which describes your educational institution and its demographics. (This can come from a previous document).
  2. An explanation of the Technology Maturity Level of your institution. (This can come from a previous document. If you didn't do the Tech Maturity evaluation already, review the Tech Maturity Model rubric and provide some insight about where you would place your institution in the rubric. Make a note that you didn't do the Maturity evaluation earlier so that I know what depth to expect.)
  3. An overview of the strengths and weakness of your institution's technology plan. (Use the EdMin Technology Plan Analysis Rubic for guidance.)
  4. An outline of changes you plan to make in the plan on an area-by-area basis. For each area in the technology plan, explain the following:
    • The problem(s) that you see in the existing plan.
    • The change(s) that you want to make in this section of the plan.
    • Why you believe this change is necessary and what resources are required.
    • Align the parts of the plan with the sections of your school's CSIP.
  5. A detailed explanation of the resulting improvements you hope to see due to your changes. This is assuming that your plan will be followed by the district personnel in implementing curriculum and technology.

Updating/Improving the Plan:
You have identified the areas that need to be improved in the plan. Now it is time to do the work. Please recreate the plan using the following framework. Where the section is covered well in the existing plan, but copy it into the appropriate section. Where things need to be improved, you can either write original material or "borrow" material from other plans on the web. An example of this would be using another school's Acceptable Use Policy. It MUST apply to your school and it MUST be cited. This citing doesn't have to be APA. You can either identify the source at the end of the entry or you can use some sort of citation system (i.e., footnotes, APA).

Here are the sections for your technology plan:

    Broad-Based Support

Expand if necessary. Suggest the team (by role if not by name).

    Needs Assessment:

Expand as necessary. (You don't have to write the actual instrument, but explain the specifics for how you would administer the needs assessment.)

    Mission

    Update as necessary.

    Vision

    Update as necessary.

    Goals and Objectives

    Update as necessary.

    Action Plan/Multi-year Planning

Ensure that an Action Plan exists for at least 3 years. If necessary, expand the plan to 3 years. This plan should integrate the other parts of the plan including staff development, curriculum integration, program integration, facilities, etc.

    Program Integration

Identify how the Technology Plan is associated with other curriculum or accountability documents. If you have no evidence of such a connection, identify which documents should be connected to the Technology Plan.

    Curriculum Integration

Identify how the institution envisions that technology can enhance curriculum and facilitate student learning.

    Evaluation

If necessary, suggest a process for evaluating the success of technology in the educational institution.

    Standards

Ensure an appropriate set of equipment standards has been identified.

    Funding Alternatives

    Identify potential funding sources.

    School Pilot Projects/Educational Research

Suggest potential pilot projects or educational research that would support your program/curriculum integration or other technology applications.

    Model Classroom Configurations

Identify which configurations would be useful to support the program/curriculum integration or other technology applications.

    Facilities

Identify facility issues and how they affect/support the integration plans.

    Maintenance/Support

Either support or propose suggestions for a maintenance/support system that will support

    Software Agreements

Software policies must be articulated. Create some if necessary.

    Copyright/Acceptable Use Policy

Cite the Copyright and Acceptable-Use Policies used by the educational institution. Explain the necessary components if (or provide examples) if necessary.

    Gifts and Disposal

Identify a policy for gifts and disposal. Create if necessary.

    Staff Development

Ensure a staff development plan is in place to support the program/curriculum integration plan.

Submit a Word version of your technology plan in the appropriate WebCT dropbox. This will be due on May 3 by 6:00 pm
