Campus Violence Prevention Project Flagship Grant
A nearly $1 million grant was awarded to the University of Northern Iowa in recognition of outstanding efforts to improve both violence prevention efforts and direct service to victims. Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, this flagship project will allow UNI to expand proven strategies to both the University of Iowa and Iowa State University.
Dr. Annette Lynch, UNI Professor in the Design, Textiles, Gerontology & Family Studies Department, serves as the project director. Grant activities include creation of a Regents’ Campus Gender Violence Prevention Task Force, development of an advocate training curriculum specifically geared towards campus-based violence, and dissemination of best practices throughout the Regent university system.
A Victim Services Institute will also be hosted, utilizing a cross-training format to include law enforcement officials, University judicial affairs staff, community-based crisis center staff, students and faculty. Additionally, a Men’s Institute will showcase best practices in outreach to men, engaging them effectively in efforts to end gender-based violence.
