Academic Support

Wellness/Recreation Services can provide academic support in a number of areas including class presentations, programming in the Wellness Resource Lab, and student research.  Internship, practicum and volunteer experiences are also available for students.

Peer Health Educators

Three to four student staff are trained and work as Peer Health Educators taking wellness programming into the residence halls and Greek houses on our campus.

They facilitate such programs as Empathy Belly; Too Much, Too Fast; Organ Donation; Condom Sense; Massage; Healthy Intimate Relationships; and Facebook Fallout.

To schedule a program for your group, please call the Wellness Resource Lab at (319) 273-6119.

Violence/Alcohol Education and Prevention

UNI has placed a great deal of resources toward prevention and education initiatives relating to violence and alcohol use in the college setting.  These initiatives range from programming and training, to awareness campaigns, speakers and events.

Developed programs include Men and the POWER of Love (a program intended for a male audience), and Healing Voices (a program intended for a female audience). Other topics often presented focus on bystander leadership and watching out for your friends, and the connection between substances and violence within the college environment.

A partner in this outreach effort is the Students Against a Violent Environment (SAVE) student organization, which provides opportunities for student involvement through education and activism in a variety of ways at UNI.  If you are interested in having a program or training session for your group, we can provide this service from what we have developed, or we will tailor the content to best meet the needs of your group.

To schedule a program or training session, gain further information, or if you are a student interested in getting involved with SAVE, please contact Mark Rowe, Violence Prevention Educator, or (319) 273-3423.  Find more information regarding Violence Intervention Services and Substance Abuse Services.

Wellness on Wheels

In short, Wellness on Wheels brings the Wellness Resource Library to you!  A health educator wheels a cart full of books to designated offices on campus.  Employees have the opportunity to check-out books with convenience in their own office space as well as hear about upcoming wellness programs and events.

To add your office to the schedule, please send your request to Deedra Dahlager
