Do you need to be kneaded?

Massage is manual soft tissue manipulation and includes pressing, causing movement, and/or applying therapeutic pressure to the body.  Massage has numerous benefits, the first being stress relief.

Massage acts on the nervous system to counteract the body’s response to stress.  It allows the body to “calm down” by helping the heart rate, blood pressure, and circulation to return to normal levels.  This relaxes muscle tension and helps the body to heal itself.  Through massage, you recognize your problem areas and allow yourself to correct your posture, the way you sleep, lift and carry things, or do anything else that may aggravate problem areas.
A second benefit of massage therapy is pain relief.  Chronic tension or injured muscles can result in decreased flow of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and to a collection of waste products.  In time, this reduced circulation will lead to the formation of ‘trigger points,” which are highly irritable spots that cause pain, tingling or other sensations in the body.
Massage releases contracted muscles; waste products are flushed away and replaced with oxygen and nutrients.  Muscles can be lengthened by stretching and kneading so that normal movement is restored.

A third benefit of massage therapy is that it helps a person to gain their peak performance level.  In addition to the benefits already mentioned, massage can allow you to be at your best in any active endeavor.  Massage increases flexibility and endurance, relaxes aching muscles, lowers fatigue levels, and accelerates the healing process of many athletic injuries.  Massage is an important adjunct of your complete exercise and health program.

For identity purposes, we will ask to see your university ID card if you are paying by ubill or payroll deduction.  If you fall into this category, please bring your card along.  We also strongly advise you to bring along a bottle of water for consumption after your massage.  Massage therapy helps to release toxins from the muscles.  Drinking water after your appointment will help to flush these toxins from the body.
