How to Form a Sports Club
Purpose
- To provide students an opportunity to participate in a common sport or activity.
- To provide students with co- curricular leadership opportunities through the formation, governance and participation in sport club activities.
- To provide students an opportunity to further their skills, experience competitive events and enjoy social
interactions.
Sport Club Status
- Completely voluntary and non- profit.
- No grant-in-aid athletic scholarships awarded to sport club members.
- Adhere to policies and procedures of the WRS and the current University Student Policy Handbook.
- Club membership and participation consist of at least 90% currently enrolled students.
Sport Club Council
The elected club President from each club shall be the representative to the sport club council. The council is responsible for serving in an advisory capacity to the Sport Clubs Coordinator in making recommendations dealing with budget, promotion, eligibility and scheduling. One member of this council will be elected to serve on the Wellness and Recreation Advisory Board.
Membership Dues
Sport Clubs may institute membership dues to supplement funding received from the WRS or any other source. The amount accessed for membership dues in left to the discretion of the club members.
Conduct
Sport club members are expected to function in a mature and responsible manner both on and off campus in all club related activities in accordance with the Sport Club handbook and the current University of Northern Iowa Policy Handbook. Sport clubs or individual members of sport clubs risk loss of membership or may face withdrawal of recognition for inappropriate on or off campus actions while participating in any club related activity. Appeals may be made to the Sport Club Coordinator and Sports Club Council.
Insurance
Neither the University of Northern Iowa nor WRS provide insurance for club members and will not assume responsibility for injuries incurred through participation in sport clubs. All club members are strongly encouraged to have a personal medical insurance plan in effect during the period of club related activity. Individual sport clubs may secure private coverage for their members. All club members will complete a waiver form and medical authorization form prior to participating with a club.
