Discover the spectacular landscape of Scotland via the West Highland Way. The West Highland Way is a 95 mile footpath opened in 1980 as the fi rst offi cial long-distance footpath in the British country of Scotland. Towering mountains, tranquil lochs, and rushing rivers combine to reward you with a unique and ever changing landscape. During our journey we will be hiking “Scottish style” by utilizing a pack service which will allow you to enjoy the majestic countryside with only a day pack weighing you down. In addition, our accommodations will include a variety of options including hostels, wigwams, and tents depending upon the night. At the end of each day’s hike, you typically have the option of dinning at a local Scottish pub or preparing a tasty trail meal, you decide. After completing the West Highland Way, we will be spending a few days in the shadows of Ben Nevis in the quaint town of Ft. William. During your time in Ft. William you can enjoy the local shops, let your feet heal, or take a day bus ride to explore a historic castle. Perhaps you will want to head to Loch Ness in the hopes of seeing the monster! The option is yours. At the conclusion of our stay in the Highlands, we will journey by train back to Glasgow through the region in which we just traveled. A trip along the West Highland Way is indeed infused with the Scottish culture but is also very demanding. Long days are par for the course on terrain that has been known to take a toll on the feet of those who have hiked upon its grid. In addition, the Scottish weather can be windy and wet, so a positive attitude is a must. Nevertheless, the journey is rewarding.
