Outdoors Skills Clinics

Trip registrations take place in the Outdoor Recreation office, WRC 174, during office hours. Trips are open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Trip equipment and transportation are provided, unless otherwise indicated. Call (319) 273-7163 if you have any questions or need additional information. A $25 processing fee is charged for all cancellations.

Kayak Roll Clinics

Learn the basics of kayaking and the kayak roll in the pool. The instructional clinic will provide “hands on” experience and personal attention. Kayaks included during instructional clinic. Swimming skills are a prerequisite.

Belay Clinics

1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month; 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month 6PM-9PM (WRC 174)

Learn the basics of climbing gear, safety, and belaying on UNI’s climbing wall. This “hands-on” clinic is designed to teach you everything you need to know to become belay certified on the UNI climbing wall. Along with proper belaying techniques, this clinic covers the use of knots, belay devices, and other safety equipment. Additional times can be arranged for groups of 6-12.

Lead Climbing Clinics

If you are ready to take the next step in climbing, sign up to learn how to lead climb at the UNI climbing wall. This “hands on” clinic will teach you what you need to know to become lead climbing certifi ed at the wall. This clinic will cover the use of quickdraws, clipping techniques, and the proper belay techniques used in lead climbing. Additional times can be arranged. UNI belay card is a prerequisite.
