Wellness and Recreation Services has a variety of choices for your fitness needs and interests. Fitness facilities in the Wellness/Recreation Center and the Health Beat in Maucker Union provide strength and cardiovascular equipment for total body conditioning. The WRC Free Weight Room provides strength equipment as well, including free weights for all sizes, shapes and fitness levels. All registered students and others who pay the WRS user fee may use the fitness facilities by showing their current UNI ID card at the welcome desks. Check open recreation hours for each of these facilities. WRS offers a wide variety of fitness and leisure classes for those who like group exercise and instruction. Everything from land and water aerobics, pilates, yoga and tai chi, to ballroom or latin dance, hip hop, or RAD self defense classes. Faculty, staff and retirees who pay the facility user fee may register for fitness and leisure classes at the student rate. Inquire at the WRS Office in WRC 101 or call (319) 273-6275.
Staff, faculty, retirees, and spouses may join WRS fitness and leisure classes without paying a facility user fee. Then, during academic break periods, when fitness classes are not being held, those registered fitness class participants are allowed to access the WRC to work out on their own. You will still need to bring your UNI ID card to present at the Welcome Desk. This service is intended for personal workouts only and does not provide access for family members.
WRS also offers an excellent Personal Training program that allows participants to work one-on-one with a Personal Trainer. Personal Training is a results-driven exercise program designed specifically for you. Personal training can be fun and benefits participants of all fitness levels. Your personal trainer will motivate you and provide the direction necessary to reach your individual health and wellness goals. UNI students, most with fitness related majors, are trained over the course of a full semester to provide professional service as Personal Trainers, under the training, supervision and guidance of the WRS Personal Fitness Coordinator.
Additionally, fitness assessment and body composition analysis are valuable tools available for evaluating and designing your personalized exercise program. They help to assess your health and fitness, including your current fitness level and health risk for disease.
We believe that all people, regardless of their differences, should treat each other with mutual respect and dignity. Diversity and individual rights will be honored and respected.
