UNI Webtools: Resources for Web Developers

UNI Templates

The UNI headers may also be used by departments on their web sites, to provide their users with convenient access to major areas of the UNI site, such as Access UNI, the Search Engine, the University Calendar and the UNI Phone/E-Mail Directory.

There are three versions of the toolbar, a small header, a large header, and a larger header with a profile photo. The same large header is used in either instance. To add a profile photo, the gold bar is replace with the profile photo.

Toolbar Text

The toolbar links are not graphic rollovers, but text styled with a Cascading Style Sheet. The styles regulating the small and large headers come in the style sheet when downloading the headers.

Examples of header use

Commencement Website - No Arch Header

Physics Website - No Arch Header

MyUNIverse - No Arch Short Header

Philosophy and Religion - Small Header with gold fade

Obtaining the headers

One preferred method of using the toolbar is to code it into the header of a web page using the server-side include version provided on the server. The advantage of coding them in using server-side includes, rather than using image-map graphics on every page, it the ease of changing the content. If there are changes to the toolbar, for instance, it only needs to be changed in one place and all the pages on the UNI web site using that header are automatically updated. For example, this could occur if the address of one of the toolbar elements would change or a section name would change.
