Homepage Header Graphics

The home page header (as shown below) is an area that we like to use to promote different aspects of UNI. In an open source software model, the home page header design is open to any department or program to request a graphic or submit a header for consideration. Involvement of the whole UNI community will allow us to expose home page visitors to a wide variety of information about UNI.

The header also appears on sub-pages. Designs targeted at specific sub-pages will also be considered.

What can be on the header image?

  • Some images already developed or used on the home page are shown below. They are only examples, your creativity is encouraged in producing new, unique designs for the header.

  • While we have done some images for major campus events, such as commencement, submissions do not have to be event-oriented. Event or date-oriented submissions will only be considered for major campus events. Individual lectures, shows, etc. may be promoted through the news section of the home page, but generally will not be considered for the header.

  • Academic departments may submit proposals to promote majors or programs within their department, or unique aspects of their department.

  • General designs may be sumbitted to reflect the character and atmosphere of UNI.

  • At this time, it's anticipated that designs will be live for approximately a week. Designs that are not date oriented may be put into a rotation to run again in the future. We're not planning to rotate them on reload, as we currently do with the profiles. At this time, only one graphic at a time will run. That may be reconsidered in the future.

  • The final decision on running a header will be within the office of University Marketing and Public Relatons.

To submit a design:

Contact DeWayne Purdy, associate director/operations in University Marketing and Public Relations with ideas or concepts before fully developing the design to insure it isn't already being developed and that it is appropriate for the home page.

Please review the guidelines below. You may either start a graphic from scratch, or download one of the templates below with a appropriate color background already in place.

Download Photoshop template - To download, right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac).

Download Fireworks template - To download, right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac).

Guidelines:

  • Graphics should ideally be under 100K in size. If you would like to propose a larger file, please discuss this with us.

  • The final image can be sent as a 72 dpi jpeg or gif image, but an unflattened Photoshop file (.psd) or a Fireworks (.png) file is preferred.

  • The graphic must be 575 X 89 pixels.

  • The background color must be set at #CFB0EC, to blend in with the rest of the homepage.

  • Animated GIFs or Flash files are acceptable with the following constraints:

    • Animations may run a few times and then stop. They may not loop indefinitely.

    • The animation must add value to the graphic.

    • Please provide a static image as an alternative to the animation
